Mitral Clip

Mitral clip is an innovative treatment is for a leaky mitral valve, also called mitral  regurgitation, in patients who are not candidates for traditional surgery for mitral valve repair or replacement. Englewood Health Physician Network interventional cardiologists have special expertise with mitral clip implantation, and have inserted over 200 of these devices so far.

A catheter is used to deliver a small metal clip to the mitral valve.  The clip pins together a portion of the leaflets to help them close.  This prevents some of the backward flow of blood.

What is the Mitral Valve?

Valves are actually flaps (leaflets) that act as one-way doors to prevent blood from flowing backward in the heart. The mitral valve separates the left upper (atrium)  and lower (ventricle) chambers of the heart.
