If you are a candidate for lumpectomy, we remove the tumor with some surrounding tissue, but most of the breast is preserved and the cosmetic appearance of your breast is maintained.
If more extensive surgery, like mastectomy, is needed, our plastic surgeons are available to perform breast reconstruction at the time of the breast surgery, or at a later date.
Our breast surgeons take a conservative approach to removal of under-arm lymph nodes for examination. If there is no evidence of spread of cancer to the sentinel lymph nodes, no other lymph nodes are removed. This lessens the chance of developing swelling and pain (lymphedema), which can happen after lymph nodes are removed.
