Radiation Therapy

Benefit from advanced technology and techniques at the Coe Radiation Oncology Center in New Jersey.

High-energy radiation destroys cancer by damaging the cancer cells’ DNA. We use different types of radiation in the cancer treatment: X-rays, gamma rays, and charged particles. Depending on your type of cancer and treatment plan, radiation is typically delivered in one of three ways:

• External-beam radiation therapy: Radiation is sent from a machine outside of your body.
• Internal radiation therapy (brachytherapy): Radiation comes from material placed in your body near the cancer cells.
• Systemic radiation therapy: Radioactive substances travel through the blood to kill cancer cells.
